Dreaming of school
Meaning and interpretation
What does dreaming of school mean?
Dreaming of going back to school is very common among adults. School stands for learning, evaluation and others' eyes. The dream often returns when you feel judged, when you're learning something new, or when a current situation stirs an insecurity from that time.
What it's often linked to
Evaluation. A feeling of being graded, compared, tested.
Learning. A new skill, a new role, a life lesson in progress.
The group. Your place among others, popularity, belonging.
Depending on what happens in the dream

Can't find your classroom
Disorientation: not knowing where you belong.
Late for class
Fear of falling behind in an area of your life.
Being the teacher
A responsibility to pass things on, or a need to be listened to.
An empty school
Nostalgia, or a sense that a stage has passed.
Questions to ask yourself when you wake up
A dream's meaning lives in your own context, not in a dictionary. These three questions get you there faster.
- 1
Where do you feel evaluated right now?
- 2
Are you learning something new lately?
- 3
Which emotion from your school years does this dream revive?
A dream predicts nothing and diagnoses nothing. If a distressing dream keeps coming back and weighs on your days, talk to a health professional.
